With much of the buzz around this weekend’s Thunder On Cocoa Beach event centered around the incredible raceboat turnout—60-plus teams are currently registered—it’s easy to forget the 10th annual happening in the famed Florida waterfront community actually raises money for charity. Front and center this year is Freedom Fighter, a Cocoa Beach-based outfit founded by Jenny Pruett who owns Java ‘N Juice, a charming local-favorite café, with her husband, Kevin.

Freedom Fighter raises money to combat human trafficking. To that end, Pruett works closely with Laura Esquivel of Rescue Freedom International, a larger anti-human-trafficking organization with even greater reach.

So far, Pruett and Esquivel have raised $4,500 of their $10,000 weekend goal. And to help keep the money coming in, they strolled the dry pits this afternoon, where they bumped into Miss GEICO team partner Scott Colton.

We don’t know if they put the bite on Colton and company—but we sure hope they did. Their cause is great and their enthusiasm and passion are contagious. So we wouldn’t be surprised if Colton and his Miss GEICO teammates left the dry pits a little bit ligher in their wallets—but richer in their hearts.
